On Monday, October 10, Kyt Jimenez made history with a very rare quadruple-double as Sarangani defeated Mindoro, 125-74, in the OKbet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 4th Season Presented by Xtreme at the Paco Arena. The game was part of the OKbet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 4th Season Presented by Xtreme.
The 5-foot-11 Jimenez, who is a YouTube sensation and draws big crowds whenever he plays, pumped in 33 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, handed out 11 assists, and pulled off 11 steals in a 30-minute and 31-second stint to become only the second man in the history of local basketball to achieve the feat. He did this to become only the second man in local basketball annals to accomplish the feat.
The first player to do this was Donbel Belano, who played for the Davao Eagles in the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) in 1999. He finished the season with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and 10 steals.
Due to the difficulty of the feat, no player in the history of the PBA has ever accomplished a quadruple-double since the league’s start in 1975.
Jimenez, who most recently played for the Perpetual Help Altas in the NCAA, stated that his primary goals were to “delight the spectators” and “enjoy the game.”
The 25-year-old Jimenez, who revealed receiving offers from three PBA teams and two foreign organizations, said he only wants to play at the best possible level.
To drive home the magnitude of what Jimenez has accomplished, consider the fact that just four other NBA players (Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon, who accomplished this feat twice, and David Robinson) have recorded quadruple doubles in their careers.
An earlier victory over Laguna Krah Asia by 113 points to 92 points for Quezon City MG Cars demonstrated the team’s fitness for the postseason.
In spite of going all out till the very end, Quezon City finished the elimination round with a record of 9-11, which was good for seventh place in the North division. At the buzzer, they posted their largest margin of the game.
Marlon Monte, Jerick Nacpil, and Levi Dela Cruz scored 23, 22, and 19 points, respectively, to give the 1-2-3 punch for Quezon City.
