MANILA – In the second half, the Bacolod BingoPlus defeated the Bacoor City Strikers by a score of 69-58 to earn a victory in the 2022 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Season on Saturday night at the STRIKE Gym in Bacoor, Cavite. The game was part of the 2022 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Season.

At the break, Bacolod was able to cling to a slender 30-29 advantage over Bacoor. Starting strong in the third quarter, Bacolod built a 41-35 lead over Bacoor with consecutive conversions from inside and outside from Alwyn Alday.

The Strikers were able to trim the deficit to one point with a run of their own, bringing the score to 40-41, but Bacolod’s Negrense Jhan McHale Nermal became more active on the offensive end, and his free throws increased the lead up to 47-42.

After Bacolod’s Nermal and Joel Lee Yu scored back-to-back baskets to start the fourth quarter, their team’s lead increased to 51-44. However, Bacoor cut their deficit to 47-51 after Mark Joseph Pangilinan made three free throws for them.

After that, Bacolod unleashed a scoring barrage of 10-0, highlighted by two free throws made by Mark Yee, a layup made by Kraniel Villoria, and more free throws made by Jeramer Cabanag and Lee Yu. This gave Bacolod their highest lead of 61-47.

Ian Melecio scored back-to-back baskets for Bacoor, cutting the gap to 55-65. However, Yee scored two more inside baskets to reestablish Bacolod’s largest advantage with less than a minute remaining in the game. Bacoor attempted to make one last push on the back of these baskets.

Bacolod has now won four games in a row and has a record of 13-7. Alday concluded the game with 17 points, including three field goals made from beyond the arc, and Yee had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds as the team recorded its fourth consecutive victory.

Nermal produced 10 points, eight of which came in the second half, in addition to eight rebounds and two blocks for Bacolod, while Cabanag and Raymond Ilagan each added nine points.

RJ Ramirez led all scorers with 14 points and two outside hits, while Pangilinan and Mark Montuano supplied 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Strikers stumbled to a record of 6-11 wins and losses. Ramirez also had the game’s only two outside hits.
